WFMW: Keeping a Schedule

For a while, I had gotten out of the habit of having a schedule, and I shared here that I was not doing too great with time management. Shortly thereafter, I made a new schedule accomodating my need to have about 5 hours set aside each day to work on my correspondance Bible degree. This week, it was implemented and even though we're only half way into the week, things are going splendidly! I finished my first course (Genesis), chores have been kept up with, I've been able to practice flute and piano, work on sewing, exercise, read...it's been wonderful. :o) At least for me, this is quite a motivator to keep on the move! So, having a fairly micro-manage-y (but not TOO much so) definitely works for me. To see my current schedule, view this blog post.

Works for Me: The Birthday Edition

Since I am not allowed to get a job, my Dad gives me a fairly substantial allowance to cover the few 'expenses' I have as a 17-year-old (I probably spend most of my money on books *grin*).

But anyway...because I get a nice allowance, Mom and Dad do not purchase my friends' birthday presents for me anymore like they did when I was a little girl. Most people have a favorite 'sweet treat' of some sort that they enjoy, so baking them a present is a nice idea. That and a card usually makes them smile and feel special. Not to mention that most people have everything they need, and I don't want to add to their clutter, either!

That's what works for me!

Works for Me Wednesday: The Car Edition

Ever since I started spending time with Ben's family, I've been in a vehicle with many, many people on a fairly regular basis, and while I'm no expert, I've picked up some tips along the way:

  • When one person stops to use the bathroom, have everyone go even if they don't "need" to...chances are, they will in the next couple of hours.
  • When stopping for food, have one person order everything for the whole group. If eating in the car, be sure to collect trash at the end of the meal so it doesn't get left in the vehicle for days at a time.
  • Throw trash out at every stop.
  • When we go on tour, we are on the road a lot for about a week at a time. One thing that is good to do in this type of scenario is to straighten out the van on a regular (daily, at least) basis. That way, when you get home after a week of being on the road, there isn't 2 hours of cleaning to do before the van is presentable.
  • If there are small children, it's good to have someone older near them who is authoritative, to stop arguments and rough housing, and to make sure they're not doing crazy things like crawling into the back where the suitcases are, etc.
So, that's what works for me.
